What Are We Doing? (2 minutes introduction -- Korean )
Our ultimate research goal is to investigate and explore reliable, robust, safe, and intelligent computer and memory architecture -- including emerging Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) technology --, finding novel technologies to offer all these properties for next-generation many-core, graphic processing unit, persistent memory systems, embedded system, high-performance computing, and solid-state disks.
Our major research interests are in advanced computer architecture and operating system (OS), especially the hardware/software interface and cooperation to improve the design of parallel system computing. We are interested in designing novel and efficient hardware/software cooperative techniques to overcome fundamental performance, security, robustness, reliability, and efficiency challenges in current and future computer systems. We are also interested in new research areas such as biocomputing/big-data/cloud-computing and architectures.
Current research topics of our ongoing projects are as follows:
- Getting emerging NVM memory technologies closer to computational resources such as multi-core and many-core units
- New operating systems (OS) by taking into account large, persistent and durable memory
- Developing software-defined solid state disks for massive in-storage processing
- Designing passive persistent NVM modules and next generation solid state disks
- Large-scale resistive/memristor random access memory for whole-persistent HPC/Data-center systems
- Architecting efficient computing systems with better memory-level parallelism
- NVM-aware new design for open-licenced processor platform (e.g., RISC-V)
We are looking for bright, creative, self-motivated, and hardworking students and trainees who are interested in performing insightful cutting-edge research including, but not limited to:
- Advanced computer architecture
- Emerging non-volatile memory systems and solid state disk architecture
- Multi-core and many-core architecture
- Low-power DRAM hardware/software co-design
- Advanced heterogeneous computing (GPU, FPGA, MIC, etc.)
- High performance computing/Data-center architecture design.
- Kernel-level IO stack and native/parallel file system design.
We are also looking for students, visiting researchers and post-docs interested in interdisciplinary research regarding hardware/software interaction, fault tolerance, power model, and energy efficient system design.
We have a couple of openings for Ph.D. students beginning in Spring/Fall. The preference will be given to candidates with deep knowledge on computer architecture, memory and embedded systems and strong mathematical background. The RAs of our lab will receive financial support and tuition waiver; Qualified Ph.D. students are expected to be familiar with top-notch research demonstrated at top-tier conferences in computer architecture area and systems area.
